Responding to a work that was done more than forty years before I was born sounded, at first, ridiculous. Ridiculous because the creator is dead. The expectation of a dialogue felt absurd. I was wrong. I am not responding to the artist but to the work. The expectation is not of a dialogue with the artist but with those who will look at it in the future.
